Cary Cochenour is excited to join Santa Clara Vanguard as visual staff for the 2024 season! Cary is an active visual and brass instructor, choreographer, clinician, and drill writer for marching band programs across the country; including the bands at Norwin HS, Seven Lakes HS, Cypress Woods HS, Jordan HS, and others.
Originally from North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, Cary continues to serve as a long-distance staff member at Norwin HS. With over a decade of full-time and part-time involvement, the Norwin Marching Band has been named a Bands of America regional champion numerous times, earned multiple outstanding visual performance in finals awards, several PIMBA state championship titles, and was named class champion at the 2021 Bands of America Grand National Championships. Cary relocated to Houston, Texas in 2015, and has been involved with the Seven Lakes band program ever since. He has held many changing roles over the years, and recently served as the visual coordinator and winds choreographer. In his time at Seven Lakes, the band became a consistent Bands of America Regional and UIL Area Finalist, UIL Area I Champion in 2020, and has been invited to perform at the UIL State Marching Contest every year since 2018.
Cary spent his time as a performer with The Cavaliers and Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and as a cast member with Crossmen Winds. He previously served as a visual staff member with Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and recently joined the visual staff with Rhythmic Force Indoor Percussion. Cary currently resides in Fulshear, Texas with his girlfriend Devyn and their puppy Eko. arching bands, indoor guards, and indoor percussion programs throughout the country, most notably as a long-time staff member with Norwin Senior High School. Throughout the past decade of his involvement, the band has earned numerous BOA Regional Champion and Class Champion Awards, several PIMBA State Championship Titles, and was named Class Champion at Grand Nationals in 2021. Cary has also previously instructed DCI as a member of the visual staff with Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Cary holds a Bachelors of Arts in Education from Saint Vincent College and is currently a 6th Grade Science Teacher at Seven Lakes Junior High School. As a performer, Cary marched with Glassmen and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, and also was a cast member with Crossmen Winds. Cary currently resides in Fulshear, Texas with his girlfriend Devyn and their puppy Eko.
