Jeremy has been a member of the Vanguard Cadets, Santa Clara Vanguard, Vanguard Cadets staff, and the VMAPA Board of Directors. Jeremy holds a Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Science, Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Masters of Business Administration. Throughout his career, Jeremy has worked in community mental health managed psychiatric programs at Kaiser Permanente for seven years. Previous becoming Executive Director of Vanguard, Jeremy was a Vice President at a non-profit youth residential facility.

Connection, support, optimism, creativity, and positive influence are Jeremy’s foundational strengths and he believes in creating a culture of unity, excellence, and enthusiasm. He believes in utilizing the energy and creativity naturally available in the hearts and spirits of those around him to invigorate systems into becoming the most effective, innovative, and flexible structures possible.  Jeremy’s vision for Vanguard is in creating the most transformative experience possible for performing members and strongly establishing the Vanguard organization as a place known for training and producing incredible people destined for incredible things.

Michael Kovalich has been Vanguard Music and Performing Arts Chief Financial officer since July of 2020 and has held various positions on the Board of Directors and board committees including Treasurer since 1992.

Besides Vanguard, Mike is also Consulting Director for the Bronco Venture Accelerator at Santa Clara University, Chief Financial Officer for SPARC International, a computer chip design consortium, Financial Systems Consultant for Ropers Majeski, (law firm) and Chief financial Officer for the Coral Tree Education Foundation, a non-profit that builds schools and educates young children in the remote and poverty-stricken villages of Cambodia. Mike also sits as advisory board member for Bay Street Capital Holdings and Santa Clara Ventures.

Mike serves his local community as Chairman, Citizen Oversite Committee for government spending under Santa Clara County’s measure K spending initiative and as a certified mentor for SCORE, a volunteer business mentoring service sponsored by the nation’s Small Business Administration (SBA).

Previously Mike held a number financial and business management position at Frost & Sullivan, a global research firm, Business Director for Greenberg Traurig’s Bay Area offices (large international law firm), Chief Financial Officer for Werber Shandwick’s Technology Group, (public relations), Controller for Crown Zellerbach (forest products) and Administrator for number of other law firms, corporate legal departments, and small businesses.

Mike holds a Master of Business Administration degree from California State University, Hayward and a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University.

Mike is originally from New Jersey where he participated in Drum Corps for over seven years as member of the Livingston Hilltoppers and Imperial Guardsmen.

Claire has a well-rounded background in fundraising, having worked in various development roles for nonprofit organizations in visual and performing arts, health, community safety, and youth development. She has experience working with under-resourced and marginalized communities, including youth from Title I schools.

Most recently, Claire was the Grant Coordinator at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside, where she managed foundation, corporate, and government funding relationships. She also coordinated community-based special projects and events.

Claire is a proud alumna of the Santa Clara Vanguard color guard section, where she marched from 2015-2018. Previously, she was also a color guard technician for the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets.

Vanguard Music and Performing Arts (VMAPA) is excited to share that Rebecca Compton-Allen has accepted the position of Director of Project Management. As Corps Director of The Santa Clara Vanguard in 2022, Rebecca diligently navigated the corps through the first competitive season after a two year hiatus. As the Director of Project Management she will play a key role in VMAPA’s strategic planning, infrastructure improvement, and administrative operations.

Previous to 2022, Rebecca worked with Shadow Drum & Bugle Corps, where she spent 8 years in a variety of roles from Front Ensemble Technician to Executive Director. Rebecca has also taught and directed various music ensembles in Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and California for the past 17 years. Her performing experience includes Minnesota Brass Drum & Bugle Corps, the Sioux Falls Symphony Orchestra, the University of Wisconsin Madison Symphony Orchestra, and more. Rebecca holds a Bachelor’s degree in child psychology from the University of Minnesota and has a professional background in behavioral therapy specializing in the area of Autism spectrum disorders.

Kale is a Bay Area Native, born and raised in San Jose. He started his Drum Corps career in 2011 with The Vanguard Cadets, where he marched until 2015. In 2017, he participated with Vanguard in the 2017 Tournament of Roses Parade, and later joined the A-Corps Support Staff for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He was instrumental in the operation and functionality of Miss Amana and continues to manage all fleet and facility needs at the Vanguard Hall.

Eddie Montoya has been a professional designer and marketing specialist for over 20 years. His marketing experience is robust, including work with tech startups, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

Eddie also has a strong background in video production, photography, and illustration. Eddie’s history with brand management has been key to the growth of many different businesses and nonprofit organizations. Eddie’s work has been instrumental in securing brand expansion including a contract with Discovery Channel for a weekly T.V. show.

Most recently, Eddie was the Marketing Specialist for BCT Consulting. In that capacity he worked with organizations across the nation helping them to develop and implement effective marketing strategies. His experience with website development, SEO, and social media marketing will be a great asset to our organization.

Eddie Montoya is a proud alumnus of the Freelancers Drum and Bugle Corps and played bass drum #2 in the Santa Clara Vanguard from 1993-1996. Eddie’s abiding passion for the mission and history of Vanguard has lived in him since the day he first watched Vanguard. He is extremely excited to help Vanguard manage an effective and robust marketing strategy.
