Mykal McGrew is a business analyst and management consultant based in the Dallas – Fort Worth area. He recently graduated from The University of North Texas in the spring of 2022, where he studied International Business as part of their Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program. At UNT, Mykal was a member of various student organizations, including the Graduate Student Council and the Professional leadership Program (PLP), where he served as the Vice President of Administration and Finance and an Associate Student Director, respectively. Previously, he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from Sam Houston State University where he studied under Randy Adams, Steve Warkentin & Amanda Pepping. While at Sam Houston State, he participated in the Jazz Ensembles, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, The Bearkat Marching Band and multiple chamber ensembles.
Outside of education, Mykal spent five summers performing with the Santa Clara Vanguard from 2014 to 2018, serving as the trumpet section leader in 2017 and Drum Major in 2018. Mykal also worked with various programs across the Houston and DFW area, including The Woodlands High School, Keller High School, Clements High School, Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and Coppell High School, as well as various middle and intermediate schools. He has been a marching band technician, movement specialist, private lessons and masterclass instructor, and drum major and leadership clinician within these programs. He was also a part of the Visual Staff at the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2019, the Vanguard Cadets in 2020, and the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2022.
In his free time, Mykal enjoys doing Kung fu with his dad, hiking, watching anime, reading manga, cooking, and spending time with his friends and family. Mykal is extremely honored and excited to return to the visual staff and is ready for yet another fantastic season!
