Nick Shilling

Nick is a marketing professional with over 20 years of experience, primarily in the music and technology industries. Nick has blended his passion for music and performance into his current role as Director of Channel Marketing at Yamaha Guitar Group, Inc., where he leads a team to drive business through partner collaboration, business development, increasing brand value, and strategic planning–all while keeping the creative process of making music in mind and creating experiences for musicians to become inspired and help achieve their musical ambitions.

Nick has held various marketing roles in launching and sustaining hundreds of music-making products from companies such as Avid Technology (industry standard audio recording and film editing platforms); Line 6 (a leader in digital product innovations for guitarists) and Yamaha Guitars (the #1 music instrument manufacturer in the world).

Nick has a B.S. in Business Marketing from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (‘98) and has been serving on the advisory board of Foothill College’s Music Technology Program that helps guide graduates into careers in music technology.

Nick was a snare drummer in SCVC (‘91, ‘92), SCV (‘93, ‘94, ‘96), and the SCV 50th Alumni Corps (‘17) and is thrilled to contribute to furthering VMAPA’s mission. He has instructed and arranged for high school drumline programs, been in numerous bands and ensembles, and will jump at the chance to collaborate with musicians that need a groovy, mid-tempo drummer.

Nick grew up in Mountain View, CA and currently lives in Sherman Oaks, CA, where he spends time working on latte art, playing hoops, and trying to keep up with his wife and three imaginative children.
