Mark Bindon holds a BS in Aeronautics Flight Operations with minors in Business and Cybernetic Systems from San Jose State University. During his college years he marched with the SJSU Spartan Marching Band and also earned his FAA Private Pilot License.
He started his career in aviation but quickly saw the changing landscape in silicon valley and shifted careers to high tech. He joined Apple Computer when they weren’t hiring to establish their first support operations team. He’s held leadership roles from small startups to large scale organizations in industries such as internet over cable, networking and security, smart grid mesh networks, autonomous ocean vehicles, fuel cells, and energy storage systems. He currently heads up the Customer Success organization for Oregon based ESS Technology, Inc implementing and supporting grid-scale long duration Iron Flow batteries.
During his previous VMAPA board service (2010-2015) he was Vice Chair for one year and Board Chair for four years when SCV was able to pay off the mortgage on the Hall and substantially grow the endowment. He has also served for several years as a board advisor.
Mark played French horn with SCV in 1982-1983 and as a member of the SCV Alumni Corps in 2017. He and his wife Melissa met marching SCV and live in Los Altos, CA. They have two grown daughters, Jamie and Olivia who work in the Climate, Renewables, and Sustainability services industry.
