Charles Mekealian is a music composer and arranger based in San Diego, California. He writes primarily for educational ensembles including concert bands, marching bands, and chamber ensembles. His music has been performed by music programs throughout California, including marching ensembles that have advanced to regional division and state championship finals. His goal as a composer and arranger is to create music that is engaging for both performers and audiences while giving students meaningful and rewarding musical experiences.

Mr. Mekealian began composing and arranging music for marching, concert, and chamber ensembles after graduating high school in 2005. His early experiences as a trumpet player with the Santa Clara Vanguard organization played a significant influence on his development as a musician and composer. In 2007, he composed a warm-up chorale for the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets that was performed at the Drum Corps International Championships. Charles jumped into writing competitive field shows after his DCI experience in 2008.  He later continued composing and arranging for the United States Marine Corps Bands, where he also served as an ensemble leader and staff arranger for the Marine Corps Band New Orleans Brass Quintet.

Mr. Mekealian holds a Bachelor of Music Education from San Diego State University and currently works as a music educator in the San Dieguito Union High School District. In addition to teaching, he continues to compose and arrange for school music programs throughout California. His experiences as a performer, music educator, and former Marine Corps musician he is committed to contributing meaningful and high-quality music to all performers.
