As we approach the start of audition season, Vanguard Music and Performing Arts is very excited to introduce the 2019 Vanguard Cadets corps management team! Please join us in welcoming Rob Shetland as the Vanguard Cadets’ new Corps Director, and Chris Roberts as the Vanguard Cadets’ Assistant Corps Director.

Rob Shetland is the Instrumental Music Director at Buena Park High School in Orange County, CA where he teaches Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and AP Music Theory. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education in 1994 from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and in 2009, he received his Master of Music degree at CSULB after studying wind conducting with Larry Curtis and John Carnahan.
In his twenty-three years of professional experience, Shetland has developed many successful programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels since 1995. He was a member of the Sacramento Freelancers Drum and Bugle Corps in the 1980s and 1990s.
Chris Roberts – Vanguard Cadets Assistant Corps Director (croberts@scvanguard.org)
Chris Roberts is a San Francisco native and member of the Society of California Pioneers. As a Vanguard Alumni (SCV 1991-1992, 1996) he has been an active volunteer and most recently performed with the SCV Alumni Corps at DCI Semifinals in 2017. Bitten by the pageantry bug in 1989, Roberts was a double-major in Music and Engineering, and has gone on to use those skills in various roles with marching band management teams at high schools across the Bay Area. Most recently he served as a Program Coordinator for Lynbrook High School.
Roberts has been a self-employed entrepreneur for over 25 years, developing multiple companies and consulting for other business owners through Roberts Motivation International (RMI). Chris and his wife live in the Bay Area and together they have 5 children, 3 of which were members of the Vanguard Cadets Horn Line in 2018.
