Enrique was born and raised in Miami, FL. and has been involved with the marching arts for over 20 years. After graduating from Miami Senior High School, he attended Florida International University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Education.
In college, Enrique was a percussionist in the FIU Marching Band and had the opportunity to perform with several drum corps and winter guard organizations. FIU Winterguard, Kiwanis Kavaliers, Seattle Cascades, Braddock Independent World, and the 10-time World Champion Cadets. His time as a performer with Braddock Independent and The Cadets earned him both a WGI and DCI bronze medal.
Before committing more time into the marching arts, Enrique was a social studies and fine arts teacher in Miami. During that time, he had the opportunity to work as an instructor, choreographer, and designer with many competitive marching arts programs and drum corps in Florida and around the country.
Most recently, Enrique had the honor to serve as Color Guard Caption Manager at The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps for four consecutive years. He as part of the team that led the corps to it’s first top five finish since 2015. Currently, he proudly serves as Director of Guards at Florida International University, where he led the organization to earn two WGI gold medals along with several fan-favorite awards and consistent WGI Independent A, Open, and World Class Finalist appearances.
These accomplishments have led to the growth of the indoor color guard program which currently fields three units: FIU Blue, FIU Gold, and FIU World. Aside from his work in pageantry and the marching arts, Enrique is currently an entrepreneur who runs and operates an Airbnb/vacation rental business in the South Florida area. Enrique is grateful and excited for his new endeavor with the Santa Clara Vanguard!
