At the center of every strong drum corps is a strong team of member leadership. Serving as a liaison between performers and staff, this team of veteran members also puts in the extra effort to lead by example and set a standard for the entire corps.
“This fine group of leaders with SCVC for 2017 will carry on a very proud tradition of stellar young men and women providing guidance and expertise to the rest of our membership,” said Steve Barnhill, Vanguard Cadets Corps Director. “They are the true embodiment of what it means to be ‘Santa Clara’ and I couldn’t be more proud of this group.”
It is our pleasure to introduce the 2017 Vanguard Cadets Leadership Team:
Nick Colmer, 2017 Vanguard Cadets Horn Sergeant
Nicholas was born and raised in Gilroy, CA and is currently studying Music and Media Communication and Journalism at California State University, Fresno. While in school, he is a member in the cymbal section of the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band. This will be his second year in the Vanguard Cadets, but first year as Horn Sergeant. When he isn’t in class you can find Nick doing Photography and participating as a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi – National Honorary Band Fraternity.
Dennis Sablan, 2017 Vanguard Cadets Battery Captain

He first started marching with SCVC in 2014, and later joined Vanguard Winter Percussion for their 2015 and 2016 seasons before marching with Tri-City Percussion in 2017. In his free time, Dennis like to go out and eat with his friends, spend time outdoors, enjoy art, and play with cats and dogs.
Amanda Steinhauer, 2017 Vanguard Cadets Front Ensemble Section leader
Amanda grew up in Fresno, CA, and she is currently studying Music Education with an emphasis in Percussion at Fresno State University. When she’s not busy with drum corps, Amanda likes to participate in multiple ensembles such as the Fresno State Wind Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and Marching Band. Amanda will also be part of an independent percussion quartet with the goal of performing at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2018. This will be her third year with the Vanguard Cadets, and second year as the Front Ensemble Section Leader.
