The Santa Clara Vanguard, one of the nation’s leading drum and bugle corps and performing arts organizations based in Santa Clara, CA, announced today that it is updating its legal name in recognition of its expanded mission as it celebrates more than 50 years of providing music and performance opportunities to young men and women from around the world. Legally known as “The Santa Clara Vanguard Booster Club,” the organization will now be known as Vanguard Music and Performing Arts (VMAPA). The change will not affect the name of any individual performing units, including the world famous Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps.
“For 50 years, the Santa Clara Vanguard has been a pioneer in providing exceptional learning and performance opportunities, but our official name would often confuse people,” said Kevin Brooks, VMAPA board chair. “Updating our name and our mission statement just makes sense when you consider the range of performance and educational programs we currently run, and it was among the action items that came out of our long range planning sessions in preparation for the organization’s 50th anniversary.”
VMAPA will not affect the history or future of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. The name of the performing ensemble “Santa Clara Vanguard” will remain unchanged and it will continue to be the foundation and flagship program of the organization.
As a non-profit, VMAPA is a mission-driven organization. Its principles and values are shaped by a deep-rooted commitment to excellence, and to the power that the performing arts has in transforming the lives of individuals and reaching communities in a multitude of ways. As the organization looks to the future, Vanguard Music and Performing Arts and the Santa Clara Vanguard will be dedicated to a new, common mission:
Inspiring communities and enriching lives by increasing opportunities
for participation, education, and excellence in the performing arts.
“Vanguard Music and Performing Arts is the next step in our path of leading the performing arts community.” said Charles Frost, Executive Director. “I am excited for the future of our organization and the next steps in our education and performance programs.”
