Malia Zinn

Malia Zinn is a geologist and is based in Honolulu on the island of O’ahu. Here, she earned a M.S. in Geology in 2020 from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Her research focused on the submarine volcano Tafu and investigated chemical and geographic variation in lavas within the Northeast Lau Basin. While attending the University of Mānoa, Malia enjoyed performing with the O’ahu Civic Orchestra. She currently works as a geologist in environmental remediation.

Malia was a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard hornline during the 2014, 2015, and 2017 seasons. During this time, she attended the University of Oklahoma, where she graduated in 2018 with a B.S. in Geology and a minor in music. She was an avid member of the horn studio and performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, OU Hornsemble, and the Pride of Oklahoma.

In her free time, Malia enjoys scuba diving, hiking, making jewelry, cooking, baking and spending time with her cat, Mischka. Malia is honored to be joining the educational staff at Santa Clara Vanguard and is looking forward to an exciting season!
