SCV26 Percussion Video Audition

Review the following instructions for your video submission. The link to submit your video can be found in your email confirmation after you pay for this event. There is no specific sheet music or explicit exercises for this audition; your video should showcase your understanding of the skills listed below. The deadline to submit your video in order to be considered for an invitation to our callback camp is December 6th.
Mallets:
- 2 mallet and 4 mallet exercises at various tempos (slow-medium-fast) that highlight your abilities. These should be exercises you are most comfortable with that demonstrate a variety of techniques: scales, arpeggios, block chords, permutations and varieties of 4 mallet stroke types
- 2-3 minute solo (or excerpt of a solo) that showcases your technical skills and musicianship
Timpani:
- A variety of exercises to demonstrate tone production, tuning, timing and moving around the drums
- 2-3 minute solo (or excerpt of a solo) that showcases your technical skills and musicianship
Synthesizer/Piano:
- Warm-ups/exercises at various tempos (slow-medium-fast) that highlight your abilities.
- 2-3 minute solo (or excerpt of a solo) that showcases your technical skills and musicianship
Cymbals:
- Focus on fundamental crashes: Flats, orchestral, port and crash chokes
- Know different sounds and their positions: Dings, taps, zings, sizzle, sucks, sizzsuck
- Know how to move the cymbals from position to position with 3-count transitions, 1-count transitions, and inward and outward flips
- Ability to mark time and play along with a metronome, This would include warm up exercises, music passages and rhythm interpretation (dotted-quarter notes, dotted-eighth notes, and quarter-note triplets)
You should expect feedback and grades within the last week of each month (September-November) after paying for your audition fee and submitting your videos.
- Contract! This is now your spot to lose, you must keep practicing and show that you have earned your spot at December Callback in North Texas
- Invited to December Callback Camp or subsequent rehearsal camps (if positions are still available)
- Not this year, you will receive feedback for future growth
