The Board of Directors of Vanguard Music and Performing Arts (VMAPA), an internationally acclaimed non-profit performing arts organization and the home of multiple performing programs including two world champion drum and bugle corps, the Santa Clara Vanguard and the Vanguard Cadets, today announced the appointment of Brett A. Bernardini as executive director.
“This organization is special, with a storied past and passionate alumni, members, staff and volunteers who have each contributed to our more than 50 years of excellence and acclaim. The board is thrilled to welcome Brett to help us build on our past and fully realize our mission to inspire communities and enrich lives by increasing opportunities for participation, education and excellence in the performing arts,” said Kevin Brooks, VMAPA Board Chair.
Bernardini represents a bold new leadership direction for VMAPA and brings to the organization an extensive history of achievement in performing arts management, education and community engagement. An accomplished pianist and vocalist, Bernardini is a member of the prestigious National Alliance for Musical Theater Board of Directors in New York and he has been recognized for Excellence in Artistic Achievement and as an Outstanding Arts Advocate by the State of Connecticut. He is also the founder and CEO of The Spirit of Broadway Theater in Norwich, CT.
As executive director, Bernardini will oversee an organization that includes multiple national touring performance programs, local community music and performing arts ensembles and various fundraising and community outreach activities including Vanguard’s popular and long-running local bingo program.
“I am honored to be here at Vanguard to build upon its remarkable history, to honor and celebrate those whose passion has brought us this far and to partner with the board of directors, alumni, members, volunteers, supporters, and the business community in building a dynamic future for the next 50 years,” said Bernardini. “I believe that the heart and soul of any vibrant, bold and relevant arts organization are its connections to the immediate community and region; how it interacts, listens and capitalizes upon its achievements to encourage community development, promote engagement, facilitate growth and foster exciting new opportunities. My background allows me to bring fresh eyes and ears to this prestigious organization and to help fulfill the board’s goal of realizing a bold, innovative and impact-driven vision.”
Local community members are invited to an open house to meet Brett, ask questions and learn more about VMAPA on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 6 pm at the Vanguard Corps Hall, 1795 Space Park Drive, Santa Clara, CA.
