2019 SCV February Camp

This February Rehearsal Camp is for Brass and Percussion members of the 2019 Santa Clara Vanguard.

Don’t forget to RSVP for this camp and submit a shuttle request through MySCV if necessary.
All shuttle requests must be submitted by Wednesday, February 20!
HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THIS EVENT:
1. Login to your MySCV account
2. RSVP to attend the February Rehearsal Camp
3. Fill out a shuttle request if you require transportation
4. Fill out any necessary paperwork to bring with you to check-in
CHECK-IN:
During check-in we will be collecting membership fee payments as well as any additional forms/paperwork (Image Release, Medical Info/History, Copy of Health Insurance, Age Verification) that you have not previously submitted.  Upon successfully completing the registration process, you will be provided with a wristband and name tag.
TRANSPORTATION/HOUSING:
Those flying in to join us for the camp should fly into DFW Airport. Also note that the Main Fort Worth Amtrak and Greyhound stations are the easiest bus/train transportation center to access for the camp weekend. Vanguard Shuttles to the airport and transportation centers will be available for arrivals starting at 5:30 PM on Friday evening and early Saturday morning until noon. Shuttles will resume on Sunday for departures. Please try to time your departure from an airport or transportation center after 2:00 PM on Sunday. A Thursday arrival or Monday departure cannot be accommodated. Don’t forget to make a shuttle request in MySCV if necessary!
CAMP LOGISTICS:
Please do not arrive at the school before 6:00 PM on Friday evening. Also, do NOT call the school for any information about the SCV Camp. The school doors will open at 6:30PM and registration will begin Friday evening at 7:00PM. There will be a short meeting with corps management at 8:00 PM and rehearsal will follow until 11:00 PM.

All prospective members will be provided with sleeping accommodations at the school for the weekend. Don’t forget your air mattress, pillow and a blanket! Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack will be provided for all camp attendees, starting with a late Friday evening snack and ending with breakfast on Sunday. Please make sure to eat dinner before coming for registration on Friday! Saturday morning registration will begin at 7:30 AM and run throughout the weekend for any late-comers. Saturday’s rehearsal/audition session will begin at approximately 8:30 AM and camp will conclude on Sunday by 12:00 PM. Clean up/shuttles to the airport will then begin by 12:30 PM.

To ensure your safety and security, all Vanguard camps operate as a closed campus. No one is permitted to leave the campus during camp unless you have prior approval from the director.

Leadership Workshop – Silent Command

Learn, lead, innovate – that’s what you’ll do at this Silent Command Bay Area Clinic! Join some of DCI’s best drum majors, including SCV’s very own Carl Huang, as they coach you through what it takes to be a leader in the marching arts. This clinic is open to all high school aged drum majors, student leaders, and aspiring student leaders. Ticket price includes a day of instruction, notebook, catered lunch, t-shirt, and 1-month subscription to Silent Command Stream.

Percussion Workshop – Paul Rennick

Have you ever wanted an inside look at how the SCV Percussion section tackles technique and approaches performance? Well you’re in luck because SCV Music Coordinator and Percussion Arranger/Caption Manager, Paul Rennick, will be coming in to demonstrate the Vanguard approach to drumming and musicianship!

This workshop is perfect for music students and educators alike who are looking to widen their views on percussion performance and gain a better understanding of how we do things here at Vanguard.

Brass Workshop – Mark Nichols
Mar 15 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Join Mark Nichols (Brass Caption Head of the World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard) as he walks through the building blocks of brass performance. These fundamentals used by top-level performers can work at all levels! Mr. Nichols has taught at all levels-elementary, junior high, high school, college, and professional and will use techniques that have proven successful for all learners and types of performers.

This clinic is open to all brass musicians, instructors, and pedagogy enthusiasts, and participants are encouraged to bring their instrument!

Performance Workshop – Wayne Harris

This workshop, led by SCV Performance Coach and renowned performer Wayne Harris, is designed to provide students and instructors who are interested in the pageantry arts with an experience to explore theater improvisation, character development, and the creation of a narrative or subtext to enhance their performance.

Together we will experience a fun, energizing and informative process that will enhance performance, leadership and enjoyment of pageantry arts!

Conducting Workshop – Tony Rivera/David Vickerman
Apr 14 @ 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Vanguard’s new Youth Brass Ensemble Music Director, Tony Rivera, teams up with San Jose State University Director of Bands, David Vickerman, to lead this new one-of-a-kind workshop! Open to college music students and band directors of all levels, this workshop will focus on techniques and strategies to improve your conducting skills.

Participants will have the chance to conduct the Vanguard Youth Brass Ensemble through two pieces of music and receive valuable feedback on their performance. Discounted tickets are also available for those who just wish to observe and enjoy!

Participant Tickets are $75 and Observer Tickets are $25.

Dance Workshop – Michael Rosales

From the mind who brought together Santa Clara Vanguard’s “Club Sound” hip-hop dance feature, comes a new and exciting contemporary dance workshop! Come join SCV Lead Choreographer, Michael Rosales (all the way from Miami, FL) as he leads you through the basic foundations of contemporary dance.

From beginner brass musicians just looking to learn more dance technique to experienced and trained dancers – this class is for everyone!
