The Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets Winter Percussion is an indoor marching percussion ensemble that travels and performs in competitions during the winter months each year. The WGI Open Class ensemble provides instruction and performance opportunities for intermediate to experienced young performers in the areas of marching percussion, concert "pit" percussion, and movement/choreography. Many members of the Winter Percussion will continue on with the Vanguard Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps during the summer.

The Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets Winter Percussion will begin their inaugural season in October 2009. The ensemble will compete starting in February 2010 in the California Colorguard Circuit (CCGC), Central Valley Guard and Percussion Circuit (CVGPC), and Winter Guard International (WGI) regionals in California.
The Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets Winter Percussion is open to young people aged 16-22 living within 100 miles of Santa Clara, CA. Prospective members who attend high schools with indoor percussion ensembles will not be eligible until after they graduate high school, but are encouraged to audition for the Vanguard Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps.

The Vanguard Cadets Percussion has a rich tradition of success, including Drum Corps International (DCI) Division II percussion titles in 2004 and 2008. The Vanguard Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps have been a DCI Open Class (formerly Division II/III) Finalist every year the Corps has appeared in DCI World Championships (1991, 93, 98, 2000, 02, 04, 06, 07, 08) and won DCI Division II in 2000 and the newly formed DCI Open Class in 2008. The Corps has also competed in the DCI Division I Quarterfinals in 1993 and the DCI Division I Semifinals in 2000. The Vanguard Cadets are the primary training group for membership in the Vanguard.
