    Finals Retreat

The Vanguard will be holding its 2007 Audition Clinic over the Thanksgiving Weekend in Santa Clara, CA. This is a great opportunity for prospective members to get some outstanding training and to learn what being a member of the Vanguard is all about. Please RSVP and let us know you're coming.

The Santa Clara Vanguard is very excited to announce three unique and entirely different show concepts to take the corps through the end of the decade. The design team has been hard at work and are laying a strong foundation for Vanguard's continued success, keeping them at the forefront of the drum corps activity.

In 2007, the Vanguard is pleased to present, "!" music by Respighi and Ravel. Currently, the musical selections include:

    • Daphnis et ChloĆ© by Maurice Ravel
    • Dance of the Gnomes by Ottorino Respighi
    • Church Windows by Ottorino Respighi
    • with more selections to be announced soon...

The 2007 Summer Tour schedule has also just been announced. Start marking your vacation days and get ready to cheer on SCV!

The Vanguard banquet was held on October 7th at the Holiday Inn in San Jose. A packed house enjoyed an excellent dinner that included a slideshow of photos from throughout the season. The evening concluded with the presentation of the member awards and remarks by Corps Director Jeff Pearson. Congratulations the individual members who won awards this year.

On Saturday November 11th, the 2006 Vanguard Percussion section performed at the 2006 Percussive Arts International Convention (PASIC) in Austin Texas. With the help of corps endorser-sponsors Pearl Corporation, Adams Percussion, Remo, Inc., Vic Firth, and Zildjian Cymbals, the 2006 Vanguard Percussion section assembled for a 50 minute clinic and performance at the Austin Convention center. This was the 2nd appearance for the Vanguard percussion section at PASIC.

    Check out the PASIC photos!

    Vanguard Cadets Report

Are you interested in joining the Vanguard Cadets? Attend the Sunday afternoon Workshops/Rehearsals beginning every Sunday in December and January at the Vanguard Hall.

This is a great chance to check things out with no pressure to join. Use our instruments and equipment to see if drum corps is right for you. No experience is necessary for the Brass and Colorguard sections. Show up to any or all of the rehearsals.

While design staff is hard at work putting together the 2007 program, the 2007 Summer Tour Schedule has been announced. Be sure to come support the Vanguard Cadets if they are in your area.

On Sunday, October 15th, the Vanguard Cadets returned once again to the Sunnyvale Moose Lodge to hold their banquet. Members, staff and parents enjoyed a buffet-style dinner and assorted speakers including DCI Division II/III coordinator, JW Koester. The traditional "thank you's" of See's Candies were handed out by Corps Director George Brown followed by recognition of the corps members.

We would like to congratulate the individual members who won awards at this year's banquet.

    Winterguard Report

The 2007 Winterguard is in full swing. Auditions are complete and the members and staff are hard at work putting together their 2007 show. This year they will be performing Bartok's "Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste."

    Full Performance Schedule

Once again the SCV Winterguard will be holding a Gift Wrapping fundraiser. Come down to the Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose with unwrapped packages in hand and leave with a shorter to-do list this holiday season.

The booth will be open during mall hours from November 25th to December 24th.

This is a huge fundraiser for the Winterguard and lots of manpower is needed. If you can come down and help for a shift (morning, afternoon, evening) on any day please let us know. Contact Dave Meikle via email at dmeikle@scvanguard. org or by phone at (408) 727-5532 x18 to sign up.

    Alumni Report

The alumni have embarked on finding a new logo. Over the last few months, some wonderful ideas and suggestions have been collected. The SCV Alumni Association has picked our best six. We are asking all alumni to vote on their favorite. Voting will continue until December 15, 2006.

The Alumni Corps will be participating in next year's 40th anniversary celebrations. Current performances include the Spaghetti Dinner birthday celebration (March 25, 2007) and the DCI West Regional at Stanford Stadium (August 4, 2007). At this show, the SCV alumni will be combined with the current marching members from the Vanguard and Blue Devils along with BD Alumni in celebration of both corps to form the largest corps on the west coast. For all alumni, this is an event not to miss. Register now to be keep officially in the loop.
