2009 Show Repertoire

Continuing the tradition of their vanguard namesake, the Vanguard Cadets will once again explore new territory with their 2009 production, "Love."

"This year the design team wanted to explore a universal theme and we couldn't think of anything more thematically universal than love, the most powerful and transforming human emotion," says corps director Rob Ripley. "The show is being constructed not only to challenge our membership in new ways both in terms of music and movement but thoroughly entertain the audience in ways they expect and hopefully in unanticipated ways as well."

Love's repertoire features: - "When I Fall in Love"
- "Seasons of Love" from Rent
- "Elephant Love Medley" from Moulin Rouge
- "Tango de Roxanne" from Moulin Rouge
- "Nessun Dorma" from Turandot by Puccini

As everyone seems to agree, this year's music will be familiar to marching pageantry fans, with the show filled with lush and popular melodies, supported by unexpected textures and big visual effects. And of course, all of the style and sophistication of a Santa Clara performance.

And with a show titled "Love", can we expect to see red make a return to the Vanguard Cadets color palette?

"Maybe," says Ripley. "Come to the first show to check us out."
