The Santa Clara Vanguard has expanding outward from the drum and bugle corps activity to offer programs throughout the local community that support the arts and education while continuing to teach the fundamentals of excellence, tradition, and integrity that the Santa Clara Vanguard was founded with over 40 years ago.

VANGUARD COMMUNITY DANCE PROGRAMS

Children's Adventures In Movement Children’s Adventures in Movement (CAM) was founded in 2001 as a creative dance outreach program. The program was conceived, founded and directed for its first five years by Carol Abohatab, whose mission was to serve the Santa Clara and surrounding communities with an alternative, both creatively and monetarily, to existing programs in the are. The program teaches children proper dance techniques and terminology, while offering an alternative to other dance schools by allowing for freedom of expression in our classes. In this way, children become problem solvers while building coordination, and strength in a total movement experience! View available classes! "Inspired to Move" Adult Dance Program Inspired to Move (IM) is a new Community Program of the Santa Clara Vanguard, founded by Desiree Dela Pena in 2007. In a non-competitive environment, dancers are able to focus on developing technique while simply enjoying the movement. We offer beginner classes for those who are inspired to learn the art of dance and intermediate/advanced classes for those who are inspired to express themselves through movement. The classes are intended for individuals ages 16 and up. View available classes! Vanguard Dance Company Vanguard Dance Company (VDC) was created in 1998 by Artistic Director Carol Abohatab, to meld the world of professional dancers with those dancers from the drum corps world. Under the umbrella organization of the Santa Clara Vanguard, which is a performing arts music and dance competitive activity, the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps has over 40 years tenure serving the community, and agreed to open its artistic capacity to include the modern dance world. View more information about VDC! Vanguard Jr. Company Vanguard Jr. Company (VJC) is comprised of dancers ages 9 to 15 who are interested in expanding artistically. The company is established to give students insight into public performance, representing the Santa Clara Vanguard Organization. Participation in the Vanguard Jr. Dance Company is by recommendation of the teacher or artistic directors. View more information about VJC!

Groove School of Percussion The Groove School of Percussion philosophy is simple — teaching students lifelong lessons that they will be able to take with them wherever they go. Some of these lessons are self confidence, setting goals...working toward those goals...and ultimately accomplishing those goals. These goals not only pertain to the ensembles, but also to the students themselves. The ensemble setting enables students to interact with other students their age allowing them to grow with in themselves at all levels.
