The Santa Clara Vanguard website
was first online in 1996. The website at that time was maintained
by a fan in the Bay Area. We would like to thank Anita Orr, for
creating the very first SCV website. Since then, the website has
undergone a few revolutions. The current version happens to be the
fourth and most likely not the last. Dan Day, a baritone alumnus,
took over the responsibilities in 1997 and created the 2nd version.
The website was hosted through a generous donation by Concentric
Networks (now XO Communications).
In 2000, the website was handed
over to current webmaster, Brian
Marsalli, who gave the site a new look (version three) and began
transforming the site into a consistent source for information about
SCV. Brian enlisted the help of alumnus Martha Garcia to maintain
the updating of the Alumni
Directory. The site was once again revamped during the winter
of 2001 by Brian, and again in 2002 to utilize database technology for news and event management and a new online store.
2006 ushered in the fifth major revision to the SCV Website. While the looked has remained
the same since the beginning of 2002, a lot of modifications have
been happening behind the scenes. The current website is built heavily on database and scripting technologies to provide up-to-the-minute information for members, fans, alumni and supporters. From the new historical archives, to the live broadcasts from the DCI World Championships, our website visitors can be immersed in the Vanguard experience.
Additionally, in partnership with Drum Corps International, information can be streamed seamlessly between the websites of the two organizations. This is especially useful during the summer to bring the scores to fans in real-time. The website is also strengthening the communication
between the corps management and the members throughout the year as special areas have been setup to hold communications.
E-Commerce is also playing a significant role as our merchandise,
once only able to be sold in the summer, is available for fans to
purchase 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
