The Santa Clara Vanguard is excited to continue the clinic/audition process for the 2009 World Class edition of the SCV Winter Guard. A second audition weekend will be hosted beginning Friday evening, October 3 (7 to 11 pm), Saturday, October 4 (10 am to 8 pm) and Sunday, October 5 (9 am to 2 pm) at Don Callejon Middle School in Santa Clara, CA.Denise Bonfiglio will be directing the Winter Guard for the 2009 season. She will be assisted by our new guard manager Roxanne Koester. Designers Jon Vanderkolff, Jim Moore, and Carol Abohatab, will continue to create the SCV winter program. They will be joined by Greg Lagola and Andy Mroczek, as well as additional accomplished designers and technical staff, including Kathy Pearson and Alexis Velez.
The overall intent of the guard is to bolster the corps membership and summer program. Accomplishing our goal of developing talent for the summer, mentoring our young people to be great citizens, great members and - in the future - great instructors, are our priorities. Although we will be accepting winter membership of personnel who are over the summer age limit of 21, our priority is to make sure we are supporting the summer program.
Additional information on the 2009 program and a tentative rehearsal and performance schedule are available by contacting the Vanguard. Please call 408-727-5534, X 25 or e-mail a-corps@SCVanguard.org to request additional information on the 2009 SCV Winter Guard program specifics.
Below is an interest form available for serious students to share their intent to attend the October audition weekend. The submission of the form will offer a reply, giving additional specifics to the program, as well as a tentative schedule.
Those students who are interested in auditioning or attending the early October audition weekend for educational purposes should contact SCV for more information. We will expect you to bring appropriate clothing and footwear for rehearsal.
The fee for the audition weekend will be $50, which can be paid in cash, credit card or by check or money order upon your arrival Friday night. You can also pay the fifty dollars on-line through Pay Pal, VISA, Master card or American Express. This audition fee will assist us with the cost of the facility, instruction and insurance coverage.
If you decide to march and qualify for the summer color guard, you will receive a reduction on your summer corps fees. There will be at least two specific fundraising events where members will be expected to put in time on behalf of the winter guard.
The flight cost for each member to Dayton, OH for the WGI championship will be added into your monthly fee payment (beginning in November). The fee structure will be e-mailed to you.
All members will need to show proof of medical insurance (health insurance) by January 15. If you have any questions on this aspect, please send us an e-mail.
