49ers Break Ground in Santa Clara - Vanguard Performs at Ceremony

Vanguard and Vanguard Cadets' Brass Perform at Golden Shovel Event

Members of the Vanguard and Vanguard Cadets brass sections combined efforts and performed at Thursday's golden shovel groundbreaking event for the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium in Santa Clara. The event marked the ceremonial beginning of the stadium construction, expected to be completed by mid-summer of 2014, with pre-season games tentatively on the schedule for later that summer.

The city of Santa Clara requested that Vanguard be present for this momentous kick-off, which has the city of Santa Clara buzzing about the future and the multitude of events such a stadium can host, including a probable pre-2020 Super Bowl. The city government and sports committee are already considering major events - beyond San Francisco 49er football games - in what will be a State-of-the-Art 'green' open-air stadium, currently designed to be a grass field.
